Unnati Operator Training Program

At Gainwell Commosales Private Limited (Gainwell) we forge forward in the infrastructure equipment sector, as a socially responsible corporate entity, committed to nation building. We have been laser focused on the goal of being future ready with a keen eye on improving the world around us. We are pleased to launch our latest social outreach initiative in association with Caterpillar India Pvt. Limited, Bhagwanti Memorial Trust and B-Able: The Unnati Operator Training Program for backhoe Loaders.

India is one of the youngest nations in the world, with more than 54% of the total population below 25 years of age and over 62% of the population in the working age group. Unfortunately, India currently faces a severe shortage of well-trained, skilled workers. As per National Skill Development Corporation of India, it is estimated that only 2.3% of the workforce in India has undergone formal skill training. Large sections of the educated workforce have little or no job skills, making them largely unemployable. Our demographic advantage is predicted to last only until 2040. India therefore has a very narrow time frame to harness its demographic dividend and to overcome its skill shortages.

We are aware that Government of India, through the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has launched a number of initiatives to counter this impediment which can potentially arrest the pace of growth of the Indian economy. At Gainwell, we are motivated by these initiatives and our state of the art skill development center at our northern integrated office facility (Unnati) is an attempt to support skill building in the country.

To support the youth of the nation, Bhagwanti Memorial Foundation, an independent N.G.O. operating out of New Delhi, with support from Caterpillar India Private Ltd., Gainwell, and implementation partners B-Able, proposed to embark upon a journey to impart earthmoving equipment operator training to potential and willing youth of the country.

The project is aimed at providing a livelihood to youth from socially and economically disenfranchised families by developing the youth as efficient operators of earthmoving machines. With the potential of job opportunity against sale of 34,000+ backhoe loaders every year in India, the trained operators would possess the desired skill and competencies to efficiently operate the machine thus increasing their employability in the market.

Our aim is also to provide a reservoir of skilled operators for our customers who often face challenges in finding skilled manpower to operate their sophisticated machines. This is one more step reinforcing our commitment to providing solutions for growth to our customers.

The training will be done with a batch size of 10 trainees at a time, who would undergo classroom as well as ‘on the iron’ sessions. Each session will include one Master Trainer, one Assistant Trainer and one dedicated backhoe loader besides the training infrastructure. The curriculum would also include 4 days of soft skill training. The candidates for operator training would be chosen irrespective of gender and female candidates would be encouraged to join as operator trainers. Annually, 80 students would graduate from 8 batches as trained backhoe loader operators. We are committed to support our trained operators in finding economically viable employment opportunities.

Gainwell and Caterpillar are not only committed to sustaining the project initiated by Bhagwanti Memorial Foundation but have drawn up a multi generation project plan to extend the training bandwidth and make it inclusive of other machines and technician development in alignment with the vision to be Future Ready!
